Congressman says key hijacker data destroyed

September 15, 2005

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A U.S. congressman says a Pentagon employee was ordered to destroy documents that identified Mohamed Atta as a terrorist two years before the 9/11 attacks.

Atta was the mastermind of the September 11 attacks.

Sen. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.) says the employee is set to testify next week before the Senate Judiciary Committee. He's expected to name the person who ordered him to destroy the documents.

Weldon says Atta and four other hijackers were identified in 1999 by a classified military intelligence unit known as "Able Danger."

But Former members of the September 11 commission Wednesday dismissed the "Able Danger" assertions.

Former Sen. Slade Gorton said, "it just didn't happen, and that's the conclusion of all ten of us."

Weldon says it's absolutely unbelievable that a commission would say the program didn't exist.

Mice infected with plague missing from lab

NEWARK, New Jersey (AP) -- Three mice infected with the bacteria responsible for bubonic plague apparently disappeared from a laboratory about two weeks ago, and authorities launched a search though health experts said there was scant public risk.

The mice were unaccounted-for at the Public Health Research Institute, which is on the campus of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and conducts bioterrorism research for the federal government.

Federal officials said the mice may never be accounted for. Among other things, the rodents may have been stolen, eaten by other lab animals or just misplaced in a paperwork error.

If the mice got outside the lab, they would have already died from the disease, state Health Commissioner Fred Jacobs said.

The possibility of theft prompted the institute to interrogate two dozen of its employees and conduct lie detector tests, The Star-Ledger of Newark reported Thursday.

The FBI said it was investigating. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is also investigating, the newspaper reported.

University officials did not immediately return a call seeking comment Thursday morning.

The mice were injected as part of an inoculation and vaccination experiment, investigators said.

Health officials say 10 to 20 people in the United States contract plague each year, usually through infected fleas or rodents. It can be treated with antibiotics, but about one in seven U.S. cases is fatal. Bubonic plague is not contagious, but left untreated it can transform into pneumonic plague, which can be spread from person to person.

The incident came as federal authorities investigate possible corruption in the school's finances. The FBI is reviewing political donations and millions of dollars in no-bid contracts awarded to politically connected firms.

Last night we went to our local and met some 'locals'. It was my first ever 'real' pub experience and while it was entertaining, it was very odd.
Entertaining because, people were friendly and invited us to sit down with them. So we did. At first, I had a little trouble understanding the local dialect, but then I just had to scan my memory of past episodes of Emmerdale, which proved to be useful.

I'm sure that having an American move into the village is quite a novelty. Their warm greeting and friendly conversation expressed that to me in full. I was utterly impressed with the 'Welcome to South Yorkshire' greeting that we received;)

It was odd in a sense that I've never had anyone just start talking to me at a pub. The people were very friendly, but yet, just a tiny bit quirky - but nothing is wrong with a bit of qurik here and there.
You have to remember that some of the folks were quite pissed, lord knows how long they were there drinking. We only stayed an hour and 15 mins.

We met: Maxine, Mark, Ray, Tommy, Fred and two other blokes, whos names I didn't catch. I brought up the topic of which team to support: Sheffield United or Sheffield Wednesday. They were quite passionate about supporting Sheffield United.
So, I will support them too.

Today was the first day that I told G to turn the heat on. Forget fall, it's gonna be a long rainy winter:/

Welcome to Sheffield!

Finally, the move is over! What a very stressful and tiring experince. But, so worth it, considering that we've gained so much space! This place,is massive, two bathrooms, three floors, three and half bedrooms, and it just keeps on going!

Just have to buy some more furniture and some odds and ends now. Already bought a fridge, which is massive as well, and so much more powerful than the old one.
We ordered a couch, which will take six weeks to make - and it will be so worth the wait, because, it will be absoultey fantastic!

Out of the whole experince, I like buying new stuff, more than moving stuff around.

The public transport here, is wonderful with: Busses, trams, and trains, which are all right outside my doorstep.
The pub is a few steps away, along with the post office and newsagents. Next door there is a fab chinese and down the other end of the high street there is a pretty good chippy.

All in all, this location is a lot better than Witney.
Rent is so much cheaper, but then so is everything else.

This house is a bit quirky, in the fact that there are no toilet paper holders, towel racks, hooks to hang things, or closets. But, that's quite alright, it still has character!

Wish we could find the water meter though:/

I thought this humorous enough to blog this piece, even though we're in the process of moving house.

Oh, yes, that's right. I haven't said, until now:

We're moving to Sheffield. Already got the new house, which is absolutely massive!
It is a three storey active townhouse with two bathrooms, double glazing, internal garage and the kitchen has so much cabinet space!

And the best part is that it's Â£110 cheaper a month than the current place:)

How crap is this?
It is just absoultely moronic for a Super Power, the worlds most powerful armed forces, and their familes which is about 12,000 to be ordered to 'stay out of london'. This started on the Friday after the bombing. However, only Tuesday, they lifted the ban:/

This is just wrong? Their actions or lack of actions, in this case, certainly give the wrong message. While the rest of the country and this country's government are going back to London, holding resolve, sticking up two fingers to the terrorists and not being told to 'stay out of London'.

I think it's utterly digusting, that the Amercian Armed Forces have to be 'babysat'.

LONDON WON THE BID!!!!!!!!!!!!!

London will be hosting the 2012 Olympics! France was the favorite, but we beat them!
It's absoultely wonderful!

France is seething. I was watching BBC 24 and one of the BBC reporters got 'mobbed' by some really pissed off Frogs. He even got stuff thrown at him and I think someone spat on him, or that was some other liquid flying across the camera. They truly are a bunch of sore losers:/

I feel another 'I Hate the Internet' post coming on:

I have to say, that it's not the type of chat room that creates an 'enviroment' but the people 'IN' the chat room that creates the atmosphere. If you are in a room full of pricks, then the atmostphere will be filled with prickness.
There is a very fine line between 'teasing' and just plain out insulting. I would expect this type of behaviour to come from a room full of teenagers, not a room that is mostly visited by people with the collective age of +100 years. Are their own lives that bad in real life that they easily feel threatened online enough to lash out at perfect strangers, whom they know nothing about? They don't even 'allow' time to get to know the person properly.
All I ask for is a lil 'respect'. I treat people with utmost kindness and respect and these malious bastards fail to return the sentiment.
Even though it is a 'bondage chat room', there isn't any reason to be downright rude, to someone who is downright nice. No need to tie me down with your 'petty teasing' and impulsed words. You may like emotional torture, but I don't.
And what kills me is when people say 'If you want to talk about anything, I'm here for you' And when they are in the same room as you, when you are being 'teased' they don't say a word in your defence, that they so eagerly offered eariler. It's fickle and folly.

Is it a generation thing? Is it a gender thing? Is it a culture thing? Or are these people on so much medication that they just don't give a fuck who they hurt, even if it is online.
Words can hurt too, which is something these people fail to realize.
'Don't take it so personal', they say. How can I utterly not, when it's 'thrown' at me most of the time? I know there is nothing wrong with me whatsoever. I know myself better than these online personas could even comprehend. I know when I'm hurt. I know when I'm pissed off. I know when I've been insulted. They can't even begin to understand how much their 'teasing' hurts.

And they don't care. Oh, they like to put on a good show when the people that they want to impress are online, but once they leave - here comes their petty shit and catty remarks. Which is treatment I don't deserve.

I'm glad that I strongly hold my faith in Karma. These people have racked up a lot of Karma payback, whether that be online Karma or not. I hope they get what they 'deserve'. I only hope it teaches them a lessson, that they quickly need to learn. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if most of them are too busy with their hobby of blowing up their own egos to even take the lesson in the first place.

I'm sure they ask themselves 'Why is my life so crap?' Well, look how you treat people who are acutally nice to you. Put two and two together, makes sense to me, why your life is crap. Your just too egotisticly stupid to realize it.

Why don't you put down that rope and those cuffs and acutally 'think' about what you are doing. Stop that 'fantasy' you are living and become your dream. Just make sure you don't trample over other people just to get your way. You'll look back on your life and regret your actions, and when you do that, you'll be utterly appalled at how you treated the 'strangers' in your life. And don't be surprised when the person at the grocery store takes your parking space, or over charges you, or better yet, break into your house.

It's people like these utter cretins that give The Cause a bad name. No wonder society shys away from 'bondage' - with ill tempered people running around loose on the internet, swinging their frayed ropes.

The Cry of the Sandal Is Heard in Our Land

Strolling through SoHo last week wearing a pink dirndl skirt, Debbie Korb was the picture of spring, the only thing marring that vision being the flicker of pain on her face.
"These shoes are brand-new," explained Ms. Korb, a broker at Sotheby's auction house in New York, pointing toward dainty sandals embellished with mother-of-pearl. "It's the first time I've worn them, and already I have Band-Aids on my feet."
Around the corner on West Broadway, Amina Koeppinger, a model, found herself in similar straits. "Let me show you something," Ms. Koeppinger said with weary bravado as she lifted a foot streaked with welts. "When I wear my sandals this early in the season, I'm usually covered in plasters. But even that doesn't seem to be working today."
Ms. Korb and Ms. Koeppinger were among the army of New Yorkers taking advantage of last week's short burst of unseasonably summery weather to kick off their boots and slip into something airy. Eager to test-drive the new sandals, flip-flops, wedges and espadrilles bought in advance of the season, they were cheerfully submitting to what many accept as a rite of spring: pain.
The months of swaddling winter-tenderized feet in tights, thick socks and shock-absorbing boots are over. Now is when many women willingly squeeze their vulnerable toes into sandals that slice unforgiving into the skin.
Eva Gajzer, who sells shoes and clothing at Kirna Zabête, a SoHo boutique, has witnessed the casualties. "Band-Aids, I see them all the time," Ms. Gajzer said.
Suddenly women are pulling out shoes with straps "like little knives," she said. "They walk into the store with their feet completely covered in blood."
Ms. Gajzer faults the shoemaker, not the wearer. "When you're paying between $300 and $600 for a pair of sandals, you expect them to be remotely comfortable," she said. "Otherwise the designer should be smacked."

Ms. Korb, for her part, is resigned to her fate. "It's crazy, I know," she said with a mixture of pride and chagrin. "I just bought these shoes for $600. They're Valentino. They hurt, but I love them so much I even had a pedicure - another $50 - just so I could wear them."

She was among the hobbled masses seeking relief at nail salons. "In the past four days we've been treating mobs of people, most of whom are exiting the winter without having done anything to get their feet ready for spring," said Anika Haynes, the spa coordinator for the Aqua Beauty Bar in downtown Manhattan.

"All the women who come here," Ms. Haynes said, "need emergency rescue. They're swollen, they're callused, and they're pleading, 'Can you buff, buff, buff?' "
Doctors, too, report a spike in business. "I saw 19 patients today," said Dr. Joanna Youner, a New York podiatrist. "All of a sudden everybody has something on their heels or on the sides of their toes, and it's all shoe related."

Dr. Youner, who insisted on wearing her new open-toe Ferragamos the other day, sore feet be damned, said sheepishly: "I'm a victim myself. In a stylish city like Manhattan, a certain amount of vanity is the female condition. If a little pain comes with it, I'll take it. But I draw the line at open wounds."

Tamara Morgan, an accountant, has evolved a preventative strategy. "My feet are fine," she said as she strolled in Times Square Tuesday wearing a pair of new Steve Madden sandals. "I made sure when I bought them that the part that goes across the toes is wide enough."
But for those who choose, say, toe cleavage or a sexy ankle strap over comfort and fit, some trauma is inevitable. "Corns and calluses are a response to the friction that comes from the way your feet slide around when they don't have enough support," Dr. Youner pointed out. She stressed that there is no way to speed healing. "You can soak your feet in Epsom salts to calm them down," she said. "But it is still going to take a couple of weeks."
Suzanne Yalof Schwartz, executive fashion editor at large at Glamour magazine, did not have the requisite patience. Recently she bought a pair of Birkenstock look-alikes, "but they hurt so bad, I'm retiring them," she said.

Other women, Ms. Koeppinger among them, have opted to smile through the pain.
"You get used to it," she said.

What can I say?

He just totally overwhelms me. I mean, out of the blue when it's not expected, there is this wave of passion that *almost* consumes me enough to shake my core. I can't even describe it as a 'wave' but just, this emotional 'spark' that sets me alight, in which I burn for many hours afterwards.

He inspires me in a way that I can barely describe with words. It's almost as 'too much', that even *I* can't handle.
I swear, we must really write a book one day;) It would be utterly good enough to become a best seller!
